UK Television Bans Beyonce’s Perfume Ad
The United Kingdom television banned Beyonce’s new perfume Heat for daytime viewing.
The ban is because the Advertising Standard Authority found the ad too provocative for children. The supervising authority decided that the ad will not be aired before 7:30 P.M.
Furthermore, the authority received numerous protests from concerned parents after the ad first appeared on Channel 4, ITV and other music channels. The British watchdog agency, one of the plaintiffs, told Daily Mail that many complaints stormed them, even though they consider the ad as unlikely harmful to adults or older children. However, they considered Beyonce’s body language in the ad, as well as the camera’s prolonged focus on her dress slipping away, which made it unsuitable for young children.
As for the advertisement, it opens with Beyonce naked in a bathtub. This was followed by the singer-actress’ posing with sensuality in her red dress.
According to the manufacturer of the perfume, the commercial was in tune with the singer’s “sexy chic” imagery, but not in any way of indecency. Moreover, they argued that the imagery less explicit than what is normally seen in the music icon’s music videos.
