Music DVD of the week: Beyonce
BEYONCE’S I Am tour was her superstar moment; the tour where she delivered on everything. Finally it is on DVD and it is been done smartly. There are audience shots from all over the world interspersed through the songs, Moscow, Sydney, Abu Dhabi and more.
Queen Be rarely talks about her personal life, but lets her guard down slightly here with self-filmed footage where she is in tears, saying there is no one worried about her health or workload or talking about flying 24 hours to spend 48 hours with her baby.
Her baby, Jay-Z, also appears on stage for Crazy in Love and is filmed watching on from the sidelines a few times. While it may be personal, B is the executive producer and director here so nothing is slipping out if she doesn’t want you to see it.
Beyonce is yet to make her classic album, but she has a string of amazing singles that makes for a stunning concert setlist. Her all-girl band tear through such songs as Naughty Girl, Irreplaceable, If I Were a Boy, as well as the best reminders of her previous life – Say My Name and Bootylicious.
All this before we have mentioned her voice – not hampered by energetic dancing and hitting peaks with her Etta James cover, At Last. Her tour was one of the first to cleverly use YouTube footage to make the show interactive – with an array of Single Ladies parodies before the real thing. And in case you forget how incredible Halo is, it is upgraded to emotional show closer here, with possibly the first stage dive and crowd surf in diva history.
