Beyonce gave Gaddafi concert fee to Haiti relief fund
Beyonce has donated money received for a concert, reportedly for Colonel Gaddafi’s son, to help the Haiti relief fund.
The singer gave the cash away over a year ago, after learning about a connection to the Libyan leader.
Her spokeswoman said: “Once it became known the third party promoter was linked to them, the decision was made to put the payment to a good cause.”
The donated money included payments to her booking agency.
It was given to groups helping the survivors of the January 2010 earthquake.
The New York Post reported in January last year that Beyonce had sung five songs, dressed in a black leotard, at the Caribbean island party of St. Barts thrown by Gaddafi’s son Hannibal.
The newspaper also said that her husband Jay-Z was at the party, along with Usher and Lindsay Lohan.
Canadian singer Nelly Furtado has already said on Twitter that she is giving away $1 million (£614,703) she received for a performance for the Gaddafis four years ago in Italy.
N-Dubz manager Jonathan Shalit said in an interview that it was wrong to single out celebrities for what they may have done.
He said: “Governments now seem to be attacking us but it’s them who’ve been supporting these people for years.
“They turn up, they take the money and they go home.
“They don’t think too much about the person they are performing for, they don’t think too much about it.”
